SYNAT research project

Research Task SYNAT - Interdisciplinary interactive information system

SYNAT (System of Science and Technology ) Research Task entitled "The creation of a universal, open hosting platform for networked knowledge for science, education and open knowledge society" was carried out in 2010-2013 by the scientific network uniting 16 national institutions. The aim of the project was to develop the concept and implementation of network and hosting platform for digitized knowledge to be used by researchers, academic institutions, students, etc. The task was part of the larger strategic research program named “Interdisciplinary interactive system of scientific and technical research”, funded by National Centre for Research and Development Under Agreement SP/I/1/77065/10.

Research on task consists of two complementary projects:

  • INFINITI – led by ICM, University of Warsaw – Stages A1 - A24
  • PASSIM – led by Warsaw University of Technology (Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology) - Stages B1 - B28

PASSIM project was implemented by a network of research institutions represented by the Warsaw University of Technology (Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology ), which comprised also the Jagiellonian University , Research and Academic Computer Network , Military Technical Academy , Warsaw University ( Faculty of Mathematics , Informatics and Mechanics), The National Library and Łazarski University.

The second part of the research task was the INFINITI project ,coordinated by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modeling of the University of Warsaw.

The aim of the project was to create a functional and integrated system of knowledge bases enabling acquisition of knowledge from distributed and heterogeneous databases; the construction of the multi-source data repository, dedicated to safe, long-term storage and retrieval of digital objects and the creation of a universal, open platform for data hosting and communication, allowing participating institutions creation of their own application software and sharing of information and services.

The project is being continued in 2013-2014 by Institute of Computer Science, Warsaw University of Technology, carrying out currently research related to stage A25. The list of publications related to the project is available on the University Knowledge Base .

One of the outcomes of the project is the OMEGA - PSIR software, implemented by Institute of Computer Science, Warsaw University of Technology team and used to implement at the University PW Knowledge Base
